My professional background is in service businesses related to publishing. I’m former Managing Director to the UK division of an international book distribution company (NBN International) and prior to that was Executive Director of the UK’s networking organisation for Independent Publishers (the IPG). I’ve played pivotal roles in a number of changing organisations, working on both sides of the Atlantic. Through questioning and critical thinking I help organisations navigate change in a variety of consulting, mentoring, advisory and non-executive director roles.
I’m currently helping Newsweek Europe launch a digital shorts imprint, Newsweek Insights. These eBooks push at the boundaries of books and journalism and eBooks and the web. They’re designed to take the reader beyond ‟news stories” into a deeper understanding of historical, political and social context.
I have a long-term successful track record in business development and I’m a regular contributor to conferences and meetings. Events I have presented at include:
- Oxford Brookes MA Publishing Programme
- The American Association of University Presses conference (Salt Lake City)
- Tools of Change Frankfurt (2010, 2011 & 2012)
- BIC New Trends
- The Washington (DC) Publisher’s Group
- BookMachine London
- Klopotek Publisher Information Day (June 2013)
I’m often to be found participating in other events and meetings where I find that tweeting makes for thought-provoking (and often entertaining) public dialogue with co-attendees and professional friends around the world. As well as blogging here at the Off the Page Ideas site, I’ve written occasionally for Book Brunch and contributed to Cilip’s membership journal in collaboration with Encyclopaedia Britannica.
In addition to founding Off the Page Ideas in 2012, I joined GSE Research as a Non-Executive Director in 2013.
I live in Cambridgeshire and Kingston-on-Thames, am proud mother to a fully-fledged adult and two teenagers, am the bewildered owner of three chickens and a Bernese Mountain Dog (still not quite sure how that happened) and I function best on days when I’ve made it to a swimming pool…
